malt office
Spatial Design / 202 sqm / 2023

Malt Office is an honest yet contradictory physical space, a dramatic cave. Its concept originates from three sets of keywords: light and heavy, closed and open, dark and bright. The plane prototype is composed of points, lines and planes: a huge black box wraps the structural column and is placed in front of the indoor entrance. The distance between it and the entrance glass door is compressed to the limit, only 1.2 meters, which serves as a barrier between the inside and the outside, isolating unnecessary interference from the outside world. It is heavy and closed, and corresponds to the light glass office partition. Walking through the narrow passage into the room, the light outlines the prototype of the space. A spacious and introverted hall constitutes the main public space, mixing the possibilities of multiple functions. The columns in the room and the columns wrapped in the black box form a silent response.

Atelier 2M2

Atelier 2M2 is essentially a “skeptic.” In their context, the “self” has also become the “other,” an “object” that needs to be calmly “observed.” At the same time, in order to verify the uncertain cognition of the “realistic utopia,” they created a series of objects of justification with different personalities and positions (in commissioned projects or independent creations). The objective (non-subjective) justification of these objects further intensifies their skeptical stance.

People

Michael Wang, co-founder of Atelier 2M2, founder of malt online aesthetic platform, member of N2 Multimedia Art Group, graphic designer, artist. Michael Wang is an artist who walks between reality and abstraction: in reality, he is rational and orderly, focusing on the essence of the subject and following the rules to discover the eternal essence of things. In the abstract carrier (thought), he calmly observes the world, imagines and criticizes.
